  7. GENERAL 
  8. INFORMATION:   Here are a few tidbits on upgrading for NetWare 386 v3.0 to
  9.                v3.1. 
  10.  
  11. HOW:           To perform an upgrade, you boot your server to DOS and load 
  12.                v3.1 of SERVER.EXE.  Next, load v3.1 of the disk driver, 
  13.                then load v3.1 of the INSTALL NLM.  Go to the SYSTEMs option
  14.                in INSTALL and choose the option "Copy System and Public 
  15.                Files". 
  16.  
  17.                After selecting this option, the INSTALL utility will prompt 
  18.                you for the appropriate disks.  When it is finished, it will 
  19.                return something to the effect of "Upload Complete" to the 
  20.                screen. 
  21.  
  22. PROBLEMS:      All customers should now be receiving Btrieve with their 
  23.                Update (Upgrade) kits.  However, if you help a customer that 
  24.                does not have Btrieve, or thinks he doesn't, here's some 
  25.                hints:  
  26.  
  27.                1.  The BTRIEVE diskette is not bundled (in the three boxes)
  28.                with the rest of the software.  It is shrink wrapped by 
  29.                itself with a manual.  The part number on the outside of 
  30.                the schrink wrapped package is 883-001053-001 A.  
  31.  
  32.                2.  The BTRIEVE diskette is the last diskette that you are 
  33.                prompted for, so if the customer doesn't want to load it, 
  34.                have them abort after the PRINT SERVICES AND UTILITIES 
  35.                diskette.

  37.                It has also been reported that INSTALL will not copy the 
  38.                SYSTEM and PUBLIC files.  It prompts you for the diskettes, 
  39.                but nothing gets copied.  We are investigating this. 
  40.  
  41.                One other area where customers may feel some grief is if 
  42.                they are using the old DCB driver (that went out with v3.0) 
  43.                and the Generic SCSI option.  If they have this combination 
  44.                of circumstances, they will have to delete the volume(s) and 
  45.                the partition on the drive(s) that use the Generic SCSI 
  46.                option.  We address the drive differently with the newer 
  47.                v3.0 and v3.1 driver.

  49.                One other note.  If customers are using SHGEN to generate 
  50.                a shell and choose the option for "Jumper configured", they 
  51.                need to run JUMPER.EXE against IPX.COM and set the 
  52.                appropriate I/O and shared memory addresses along with the 
  53.                IRQ.  Documentation on JUMPER.EXE is found in the README.386 
  54.                file on the SYSTEM-1 diskette.
